BCE Update: EU focus on Extended Producer Responsibility schemes for fishing gear

Goal
To present the provisions of the Single-Use Plastic Directive in relation to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes and the circular design of fishing gear and provide an overview on follow-up actions.

Konstantinos was educated in Production Management Engineering and has worked in the private sector in Greece and in various roles at European Commission – namely DG COMP and EPSO – since November 2006. In February 2021, he was appointed Policy Officer in DG MARE.
Audience
Stakeholders (fishing/aquaculture gear producers/assemblers, recyclers, SMEs, local government, central government, business support, academia and NGOs), with an interest in waste fishing gear.

Blue Circular Economy
Blue Circular Economy is funded by Northern Periphery & Arctic (NPA) Programme (European Regional Development Fund) that is being organised between (2018-2022). Free mentoring on eco-innovation related to waste fishing gear is available for eligible companies with less than 250 employees based in the NPA region (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland west coast of Republic of Ireland, northern areas of Scotland, Northern Ireland (except for Belfast), Greenland and Faroe Islands).
