Background
EC Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for fishing gear due to published in December 2024 will mean that producers and assemblers will need to implement recycling initiatives. In parallel, CEN TC 466 is taking forward the development of European standards related to circular design and circular business models also to be published in 2024. This may mean that other circular solutions may emerge e.g. fishing gear designed for disassembly, as well as new re-use models. In addition, there are an increasing number of new products that are being launched that incorporate recycled polymer pellets and filaments, or re-use fishing gear in new applications.
