Introduction

The Centre for Sustainable Design ® at UCA Business School would like to invite you to a webinar on the outcomes of Blue Circular Technology (BCT) project examining the relationship between the circular economy, waste/end-of-life fishing gear and technology.

Objective

The webinar will:

• Present and discuss findings taken from research into relevant technology applications, a survey of stakeholders in waste/end-of-life fishing gear, and expert interviews
• Present practical suggestions to where public and private investment should be prioritised for maximum effect

Background

This new research within BCT has involved an extensive scan of online sources, an international survey of stakeholders, and expert interviews covering:

• Trends in end of life and lost/abandoned fishing gear recycling (e.g. Industry 4.0, novel recycling processes, 3D printing, blockchains etc)
• Circular Economy policy and links to recycling/re-use technology
• Relevant initiatives and projects
• How legislation and standards are likely to affect the practical applications of advanced technologies; and
• Where the key challenges and opportunities lie.
