3Rs: Reuse, Repair, Refurbishment and Resale of Cricket Gear
20th July 2023 15.00 – 16.30 GMT
Online via Zoom

Webinar Video Recording

Introduction

Cricket gear is the 2nd largest sport but little is understood about the sustainability and specifically circularity of cricket gear. The Centre for Sustainable Design ® at University for the Creative Arts have embarked on a research and knowledge exchange programme to increase understanding and share learnings in the area. Previous research can be found on the PASIC platform, Vegan Leather Cricket Gear (VLCG) and Circular Cricket Gear (CCG) project websites.

The latest research projects have focused on increasing understanding of repair, refurbishment and reuse of cricket gear in the UK and a case study on Cric-Kit a reuse project part of Yorkshire Cricket Foundation which aims to support the reuse of cricket gear locally and reduce barriers to the sport.

The webinar will introduce the Golden Triangle (Charter and Czutkowna 2023): a preliminary model which highlights potential links between environmental (diverting products from landfill and extending their useful life), social (social benefits of providing access to sport, e.g improved mental health, community), and economic sustainability (reducing barriers to cricket for players) of cricket gear. The Golden Triangle illustrates a potential link between reuse, affordability and participation responding to some of issues highlighted ICEC report ‘Holding up a mirror to cricket’ focused on equity in cricket.

The webinar will be led by Professor Martin Charter and Joanna Czutkowna and will include presentations and an opportunity to ask questions.
