Background
Farnham Repair Café (FRC) was established in 2014 and became a charity in 2017. FRC has organised 60 sessions in collaboration with The Centre for Sustainable Design (®) (CfSD) at the Business School for the Creative Industries at the University for the Creative Arts , Farnham Town Council and Spire Church. FRC has created significant impact since it was launched: over 3000 attendees, 1300 completed repairs, 66% repair rate, 4 tonnes diverted from landfill resulting in 36 tonnes of CO2 emission savings and finally saving citizens of Farnham over £105,000. In addition, to its physical events, FRC also provides free advice service through Facebook and tool to calculate CO2 emission savings from repair that is freely available to other Repair Cafes and other interested parties.
FRC is now looking to recruit new repairers and volunteers in preparation for future sessions after lockdown. Skills and experience related to electrical, mechanical, clothing, bicycles and furniture are being sought. In addition, FRC is looking for people with skills in 3D printing to enable it to continue its pioneering work on customised repairs.
Objective
The webinar will provide an introduction to Farnham Repair Café (FRC) and provide experiences of repairers and other volunteers who are involved. There will be two short presentations, and a question and answer session that will designed to enable those interested in engaging with FRC to learn more – either as volunteer, repairer or a future customer.
