Background
The 1st UK Repair Conference was organised on 12th March 2020 and a subsequent series of webinars has highlighted the significant interest in the sharing of knowledge and experience of establishing Repair Cafes for those that are in the process of setting up, or in the early stages of the development, and/or that are simply interested in learning more about how they work and what it is like to be involved.
Objective
The webinar will share knowledge, experience and lessons learnt from setting up and managing Repair Cafes building on knowledge from the UK and Sweden. This will consist of two presentations, and a question and answer session.
Organisers
Farnham Repair Café (FRC) have organised 60 sessions in collaboration with The Centre for Sustainable Design (®) (CfSD) at the Business School for the Creative Industries at the University for the Creative Arts , Farnham Town Council and Spire Church. Many lessons have been learnt over the years. Extensive knowledge and experience has been built around Repair Cafes both practically and at a research level locally and internationally: FRC partner CfSD have led or partnered in three surveys of Repair Cafes worldwide; and FRC was the 1st Repair Café to set up as a charity in the UK.
Repair Cafes in Sweden are relatively new phenomenon. Repair Cafe Malmö (RCM) started in 2017 and is one of the first Repair Cafes in Sweden and prior to CV19, RMC started to run events weekly. In addition, Repair Cafe Lund (RCL) was started in 2019 and was running events once a month prior to CV19. Some tips from RCM and RCL for the Nordic region will be shared, particularly the building of successful collaborations with other municipal and social organisations in Malmö and Lund. In addition, continuing challenges will be discussed.
