26th March 2025
Mumbai
India

Background
Chatham House have now identified that there are now over 80 national Circular Economy strategies worldwide and five international CE standards have been published in 2024-25. In addition, the European Commission have passed and are developing policy and regulations related to CE. Strategically the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), passed in the summer 2024, extends EC policy related to cover circularity in multiple sectors, introduces the Digital Product Passport (DPP), bans on the destruction of unsold products and green public procurements. ESPR regulatory development will initially focus on clothing, textiles, fashion, and apparel (CTFA), and iron and steel. In addition, to ESPR there is a range of new policy emerging that will impact on CFTA sectors including green claims and extended producer responsibility.

Event
The workshop will cover global developments in CE and highlight the Indian context. This will be followed by a presentation on the results of an expert survey on the ‘state of the art’ of product circularity amongst leading companies. More specific presentations will then follow on the emergence of repair cafes worldwide, and new circularity European policy and standards related to the clothing, fashion and textiles sector. Finally, there will discussion over findings from a series of research projects covering circularity, cricket gear and clothing completed via Platform for Accelerating Sustainable Innovation in Cricket (PASIC) founded and led by The Centre for Sustainable Design® (CfSD) at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA).

The workshop is jointly organised by CfSD at UCA and EMC, and aligns to two projects being led by CfSD at UCA:
