Growing global discussion over green jobs, green economy and eco-innovation means new opportunities for innovators, entrepreneurs and designers working in the built environment. The Stern Review on 'The Economics of Climate Change' highlighted that increased investment in R&D and innovation in building technologies could have a profound impact on the emissions attributed to buildings and increase climate resilience.
Building and construction are in the front-line of the sustainability debate - with the sector contributing over 40% of greenhouse gas emissions and producing major impacts from 'cradle to grave'. To reduce carbon dioxide emissions and materials consumption will require behavioural change, innovative low carbon and resource efficient solutions and importantly, new thinking. New solutions are urgently required for both new build and retrofit – but are these solutions available in the UK?
The speakers will discuss these and other questions bringing a range of experience from intimate involvement in the practicalities of sustainable buildings and the development and use of new and existing technologies.
